2x² - 8x + x - 4 = 0
2x(x - 4) + 1(x - 4) = 0

(2x + 1)(x - 4) = 0

Set each binomial equal to zero. 

2x + 1 = 0
2x = - 1
x = - 1/2

x - 4 = 0
x = 4

Your x-intercepts are x = - 1/2, 4 or (- 1/2, 0) and (4, 0)
