2(x+y=7)     1. you make a variable the same.        3. then you have your          2x+2y=6       answer which is undiffined because there is no x or y anymore.      
                    2. you subtract 2x+2y=14                          4. the answer is just -8
                                             2x+2y=6
                                             -2x -2y  -14
