By using a telescope. Galileo Galilei was able to prove the theories of NICHOLAS COPERNICUS right. Copernicus' theory was that the the planets moved in a heliocentric model; meaning that all the planets orbited the sun not the earth (as most people believed at the time). Both Galileo and Copernicus were prosecuted by the Catholic Church for publishing their theories.
